Insight Cambodia

Started: 2010, still ongoing.

Insight Cambodia (former Helping KAKO) is a student project that was founded 2010 by students of the Master in Strategy and International Management (SIM) at the University of St. Gallen. It is part of the SIMagination Challenge Programme which enables and challenges all SIM students to implement a social project in the developing nations of the world.  Every year the project is taken over by the next generation of SIM students. After six fruitful years of collaborating with the local NGO KAKO in rural Siem Reap, we successfully completed our partnership in 2015. After conducting various projects ranging from education to eye care, we are now focusing on contributing to new initiatives.

Since 2016, Insight Cambodia has started to work on a new project with a new partner, Feeding Dreams. Feeding Dreams Cambodia is a grassroots Community School providing free quality education and daily meals for over 800 impoverished children from the poorest parts of Siem Reap. In addition, Feeding Dreams Cambodia strives to keep families united, fight poverty, illiteracy and malnutrition, and help grow tomorrow’s community leaders.

In 2016 the project focus on developing the general life skills, especially financial literacy skills, of the students of the new Hospitality School of Feeding Dreams opening in summer 2016 as an add-on to the regular technical subjects. The success of the course has pushed our partner to keep it as part of the hospitality student’s curriculum.

The fruitful collaboration with Feeding Dreams has opened new opportunities to continue delivering an integral training system to the youth of Siem Reap through the training center to be inaugurated in 2017 by the Hospitality School, where some students will put their skills at practice.

This year, Insight Cambodia will help set out the business plan for a restaurant at the training center and will provide financial support for the facilities. Moreover, our ultimate goal will be establishing bonds with local sponsors and creating a brand and a reputation around the Hospitality School, in order to guarantee the self-sustainability of the business in the long-term.
